Getting started

• Add photos. Tap Add Media on the home screen. You can pick from your photo library, import from the Files app or a USB drive, or send them from another device over Wi-Fi.
• Start the frame. Tap Photos, Videos or the ambient scene. That is all the setup there is.
• Leave it running. For an all-day frame, plug the iPad in and turn off Auto-Lock in the iPad's own Settings, under Display & Brightness.

Sending photos over Wi-Fi

Open Add Media → Wi-Fi Transfer. The iPad shows a web address, a QR code and a six-digit code. On your phone or computer, open that address, enter the code, and drag your files in.

• Both devices must be on the same Wi-Fi network. Guest networks often block devices from talking to each other, which stops this working.
• Every upload needs the code. There is no way to switch that off.
• Turn Wi-Fi Transfer off when you have finished sending.

DriftFrame Wall: several iPads as one display

A wall shows your photos across several iPads at once: one is the Primary and the others are Companions.

• Put every iPad on the same Wi-Fi network, then open Settings → Set Up Wall on each.
• Choose Primary on the iPad that leads, and Companion on the others. Enter the code the Primary shows.
• The Primary sends what it is showing to the Companions. The first time a Companion plays a file it has not seen, it copies it across your network first, so a very large video may take a moment the first time.

Dimming overnight

Settings → Advanced → Dim Overnight dims the screen at a time you choose and brightens it again in the morning. DriftFrame has to stay open for this: once iOS locks an iPad, no app can wake it, so turn off Auto-Lock for a frame that runs all night.

Night Mode does something similar on its own schedule and can pause playback while it is dark.

Storage

Photos and videos you import are copied into DriftFrame, so they take space of their own. Settings → Storage Used shows how much. Delete Imported Media removes everything DriftFrame has imported; your originals in Photos or Files are untouched.

On a wall, each Companion also keeps a copy of what it has been asked to show, so a library of large 4K videos takes that much space on every iPad.

Common questions

The screen keeps turning off

Turn off Auto-Lock in the iPad's Settings under Display & Brightness. If Presence Detection is on, the screen also dims when the room looks empty; touch the screen to bring it back.

A Companion is not following the Primary

Check both are on the same Wi-Fi network and that neither has gone to sleep. Open Set Up Wall on the Primary to see which frames are connected. Restarting DriftFrame on the Companion re-establishes the connection.

Portrait photos look cropped

DriftFrame fills the screen where it can do so without cutting a face, and pairs two portrait photos side by side on a landscape screen. If a photo cannot be filled without losing someone, it is shown whole instead. Settings → Photo Framing has the controls.

Privacy

Your photos stay on your iPad and your own network. The privacy policy sets out exactly what leaves the device and when — briefly: media you send to your own paired iPads, an approximate location if you turn on weather, and a photo's coordinates if you show where it was taken. No account, no analytics, no advertising.
